Transforming Education

LIVE

Advancements in technology are enabling a proliferation of innovation, which has a strong impact on the way we live. New careers are being created, while others are being automated. To successfully impact tomorrow’s world, we need to think differently about how we education the next generation of leaders, inventors, and problem solvers.

Hi Hosni, can you explain the social mission behind Voila Learning and a few words on how you got started?
Education is one of the most stagnant sector. What we teach (and the way we teach) is completely obsolete. Rather than preparing our youth to tomorrow’s job market, the education system became a retarder of progress. The idea for us is to disrupt Education by bringing new technology aligned with tomorrow’s job market’s requirements. Everyone knows that AI will change everything, yet we our school system continues to teach “the old way”. Teaching the way we teach today is like training our students to run faster than cars.
Sorry if I’m being too abrupt, but it has to change, or else we will all be in trouble in 10 years.

The rise of ed-tech has coincided with the blurring of conventional classroom walls. What role do you believe online learning tools will play in the future of elementary education?
Technology is just a tool - not a goal - so as online learning tools. If you’d like to know about what skills will be required for tomorrow’s world, you simply have to focus on anything that AI can NOT do. Empathy, collaboration, self-esteem, synergy, music, art, team-work... all these soft-skills will be VERY valuable in the years to come. Technology should be used to facilitate that goal. I know that it sounds like a paradox, but we need to “use technology to train our kids to do anything that technology cannot do”.

What is the most exciting theme in ed-tech today?
“We can’t improve what we can’t measure”. AI will help us measure exponentially more about how students learn best. We are just starting to scratch the surface of neuro-science and learning - but combined to AI, this will become a revolutionary field of science promising to help millions of students “blossom intellectually”.
I am very excited about what’s next... but it will only be possible is the school system gets onboard (hopefully sooner than later).
